OUR PRODUCERS

BIODIVERSITY BEEF has developed a solid network of conservation-minded beef producers who are raising their cattle alongside nature. Our selected producers are keen on the most advantageous practices to raise their beef herds in ways that mimic nature and our producer network includes some of the top Manitoba producers on the regenerative agriculture front, a movement that is gaining steam at farm gates across the Prairies. We screen our producers for the biodiversity-benefitting ways they farm and their contributions to the environment and society via regenerative agriculture practices, conservation projects and easements, beneficial management practices and environmental farm plans. Of course, when purchasing beef, taste is a major component and we stand firm that based on the genetics and farming practices of our producers that the beef we sell you will surpass your expectations.

Introducing Our First Two
BIODIVERSITY BEEF Producer Farms for Summer 2020

BIODIVERSITY BEEF is pleased to announce  working relationships with two of Manitoba’s top beef producers to launch our business model with: South Glanton Farms and Nerbas Bros Angus. Both of these family-owned farms have been recognized as The Environmental Stewardship Award (TESA) winners which is the highest environmental honour awarded to Manitoba beef producers. Both farms are certified for the Verified Beef Production Plus (VBP+) and the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) programs. As we go forward with Biodiversity Beef, we expect to add more producers and family farms into our mix. These two farms are a magnificent start.

At South Glanton Farms north of Brandon, a diverse regenerative agriculture-principled farming system is in place and the benefits to the environment and rural community are evident through the production of cattle and the proliferation of biodiversity. This business case is presented using the premise that farming practices utilized at South Glanton Farms provide consumers with an ability to purchase beef raised alongside biodiversity and with nature as a key focus of their purchase decision. To date in Manitoba, there has been limited opportunity to connect with consumers allowing them to consciously participate in this progress.

At Nerbas Bros. Angus, cattle must be able to thrive under a forage-only environment. That is, purely 100 per cent grass-fed throughout the system. The Nerbas family takes great pride in being stewards of the land. Protecting our resources for the next generation is very important for us. That's why we work closely with our local Conservation District to make sound business decisions that protect the ecosystem and ensure long term environmental sustainability. We also voluntarily participate in other industry initiatives such as: Manitoba Manure Management Plan (MMP), The Environmental Farm Plan (EFP), Verified Beef Production (VBP). Holistic Management also plays a big role in our day to day decisions and operations.
